Encounter Point (USA: 2000, 94 mins.)

Thursday February 12, 2009, 5:30pm & 7:30pm

A Film by Ronit Avni and Julia Bracha

A true story about the everyday leaders who refuse to sit back as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict escalates. Suicide bombers and kidnappers spewing hateful, nihilistic rhetoric on one side. And  on the other one of the world’s most powerful armies raining down its massive force to subdue the local population.

Encounter Point moves beyond sensational and canned images to tell the story of an Israeli settler, a Palestinian ex-prisoner, a bereaved Israeli mother and a wounded Palestinian bereaved brother who sacrifice their safety, public standing and homes in order to press for a grassroots movement for nonviolence and peace.

Because of the current war in Gaza and the recent one in Lebanon, Encounter Point is a critical film for all Americans to see, in part to understand what drives the violence, and in part to recognize those who are working to stop it.
